WTC E-Mall Surabaya

Surabaya, Indonesia

Project Type

8,652 sqm

The evolution of shopping center typology, from traditional market until now penetrated into digital and online world, become architect's consideration in planning Surabaya e-mall. This project is a mall project, originally named WTC Mall with 3 floors, along with the development of time and significant business change, the owner feel the need for additional function so that initially has 3 floors, and adding another 3 floors again so the total becomes 6 floors. The addition of this floor also adds function inside, originally just a function of buying and selling then added with the bank, food court, and living area.

The concept used is living belt, living belt trying to make the mall atmosphere that was originally no passion to be more alive, living belt in the form of communal areas, and social surround the building facade. This concept was chosen because it saw the existing building is too massive and bulky without any interaction with the surrounding area. the existence of a living belt formed two orientations on the mall, orientation into the atmosphere of buying and selling, and orientation out the building with a more friendly atmosphere.

Mall has 2 operating time settings, the living area open longer than inside, therefore the circulation is planned so that the living area on the balcony has its own vertical path. Food court in the form of food galleria placed on the top floor of the mall as anchor visitors and visitors get the best view on the Mall. Food galleria still use the concept of living belt with emphasis on social and community, seen with the selection of a long table that forces visitors to share the table. The selection of facade colors using the same tone as the existing mall, with the addition of warmer colors to make the atmosphere more alive in the E-mall area.
